Watch and listen to Canada’s Queen of R & B perform some of her original songs and talk about performing, songwriting and her experiences in the music business.

This Canadian-born, triple-threat (singer /songwriter /performer) loves to share her talents and has an enthusiasm for music that is unparalleled. Her charming attitude and charismatic personality has helped propel her career and reach milestones that most artists struggle to achieve in a lifetime – opening for Kanye West in Singapore, being hand-picked to perform for the Queen, headlining the opening ceremonies at the 2010 Winter Olympics, winning multiple Juno awards, penning songs for the likes of Missy Elliot, Nas and Destiny’s Child as well as performing alongside artists such as Jay-Z, Sean Paul, Kardinal Offishall and Alicia Keys.

NOW Magazine Praises Metalworks Production Group for The National with Neko Case Concert at ACC

This past December Metalworks Production Group supplied the sound and lighting for The National with Neko Case at the ACC. Metalworks Production Group staff included, Andrew Werlick (System Tech), Shaun Shuell (A2), Mitch Mazerolle (Lighting Lead) and Greg Evans (Dimmer Tech). An L-Acoustics System consisting of 12 V-Dosc and 3 Dv-dosc per side was used for main hang and for side hang per side were 10 Dv-dosc. Along the lip of the stage 4 Dv-dosc front fills were used. Bottom end was L-Acousitcs SB218 subs with 10 per side and all amplification was L-Acoustics LA48’s and Lab Gruppen FP6400. As for lighting, we supplied 20 Martin 700 Profiles, 11 Martin Atomic 3000 Strobes and 23 Martin Stage Bars as well as a lot of haze!

A Warm Welcome to All New Students! Orientation Week Begins Today, Jan 3 2012

Metalworks Institute is very happy to welcome the new January students! This January 2012, we will celebrate our sixteenth intake of students, as well as the inaugural intake of our new Music Performance and Technology program. Our two-year Music Performance and Technology program is available in the following majors: Guitar, Bass, Drums & Percussion, Keyboard and Vocals.

New Scholarship by Sarnia Bayfest in Conjuction with Metalworks, Congrats to Connor Burgess

On November 30th, Metalworks Institute of Sound and Music Production announced that Connor Burgess is the recipient of the 2011 Metalworks/Sarnia Bayfest Scholarship. Connor is the first student to receive the Metalworks/Sarnia Bayfest Scholarship, which entitles its recipient to full tuition for the one year Show Production and Event Management Program at Metalworks Institute. Eligibility for the scholarship includes having an OSSD or equivalent, residing in Southwestern Ontario, a short essay and having sincere dedication and aspirations to excel in the live event industry. Scholarship beneficiary, Connor Burgess commented, “When I found out that I was the recipient of the scholarship I was very excited and surprised. This is a dream come true and I cannot wait to start!”

Event Recap: Student Event, Holiday Breakout – Dec 4, 2011

Students from MISPENT (Metalworks Institute Show Production and Entertainment), a student group, hosted a charity event called ‘Holiday Breakout’. All proceeds were donated to the Friends of Music Therapy Endowment Fund. The all ages event, at the Rockpile included an evening of band performances and raffles for prizes from sponsors like EMI, The North Shore, Starbucks and Toronto Symphony Orchestra. The evening was hosted by Scott Green, and included five bands (in order of performance): Mike Ursini, The Soundsmiths, The Gentlemen Thieves, On Corinthians and Good Rats.

Event Recap: Annual Holiday Staff & Student Pancake Breakfast – Dec 7, 2011

Metalworks Institute held its annual Holiday Pancake Breakfast for the students and staff today. The event is held each winter to celebrate everyone’s hard work and create a social setting for both students and instructors. The event featured delicious freshly-made pancakes made to order and an array of toppings including fruit, whipped cream, syrup and chocolate chips. “The pancake breakfast is the staff’s way of saying thank you to the students and at the same time having an opportunity to connect with them, while sharing some holiday spirit,” commented Gail Brommit, Metalworks Institute Registrar, who organizes the event each year.

Event Recap: illScarlett Plays Open Mic Night!

illScarlett played Metalworks Institute Open Mic last night at Square One Boston Pizza! Both the bar and dining area of the venue reached capacity by 8:30pm with a line-up outside. Metalworks Institute students volunteered to work the audio and lighting for the entire night including the illScarlett set! illScarlett tested out their new material to a packed audience filled with Metalworks Institute students, alumni and staff. The evening also including performances by Metalworks Students, Andy Morrish and Matt Campbell as well as performances from grads Justin Idems and Filip Smialek.
