Elevate your production proficiency in the Show Production Systems Workshop Capstone, where students undertake specialized projects in the entertainment industry. Demonstrating knowledge gleaned from prior courses, students create practical projects. These projects, tailored to individual interests and program objectives, culminate in a professional portfolio enriched by constructive feedback from peers and instructors.

Students will learn about audio signal processing devices and their real-world uses in live sound reinforcement. They will explore different effects and dynamics processors, including compressors, gates, reverbs and delays and understand how to apply them effectively in live sound situations.

In this course, students will gain hands-on experience in using audio signal processing devices for live sound reinforcement, building upon what they learned in the Audio Signal Processing course. They will apply different processing techniques while also learning about analog and digital processing for live events.

The Concert & Tour Management curriculum consists of three courses that give students a thorough understanding of what it takes to run a successful tour. They will learn about forming a management team, various industry deals, alternative income sources, merchandising, promotions, sponsorships, scheduling, hospitality, travel arrangements and the technical aspects of touring, such as stage setup, sound, lights and live show settlements.

This course will teach students about designing concert venues, including staging, sound and lighting. They will learn how to use design software to create technical drawings incorporating materials, specifications, trussing and staging while accounting for acoustics and restrictions.

This course offers students a thorough understanding of stage lighting principles, technologies and techniques used in live events. They will learn about the history of theatre, stage technology, lighting fixtures, dimmer systems, cables, connectors, truss systems and get an introduction to the lighting design process.

Students will gain hands-on experience applying stage lighting principles, technologies and techniques for live events. Through comprehensive practical application, students will design, program and execute light and video shows using industry standard lighting consoles, video walls and media servers.

The Critical Listening curriculum will teach students about auditory perception in music production and audio mixing techniques. Through training drills and comparative studies, students develop their critical listening skills as audio engineers, learning to identify sonic features that can positively or negatively impact a final audio mix.

Develop comprehensive skills in digital audio recording technologies, using Pro Tools and advanced techniques for music production.

Delve into the theoretical and technical aspects of sound and recording in the digital realm, exploring hardware, software, codecs, digital media and operating principles.

Apply practical knowledge of digital hardware and software, learning about cables and their applications, interfaces, digital communication protocols and associated operating principles.

Explore the music, broadcast, film, gaming and live event industries, gaining insights into various sectors and learning about music industry infrastructure, entrepreneurship and business planning.

This course will provide students with broad insight into the fundamentals of music and rhythm. Students will learn about rhythm, time and melody as well as the song structure and form of various musical styles and genres. Students will apply this knowledge to lighting design and operation for live stage performances.

In this course, students will explore health and safety challenges in the growing live events industry, including crowd management, temporary staging, working at heights and electricity safety. They will analyze past tragic incidents in the performance industry to learn how to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Develop a comprehensive understanding of electricity and electronics, covering concepts such as electric circuits, analog and digital electronics and practical experience with soldering and building electronic devices.

In this course, students will gain theoretical and practical knowledge of troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing live show systems. They will learn to diagnose and fix system problems efficiently and prevent technical issues through proper testing and maintenance procedures.

The Show Production Systems curriculum offers students a theoretical understanding of sound and show production systems, covering theoretical, technical, creative and artistic principles. Students will learn about microphones, signal flow, cables, consoles, amplifiers and speaker systems while developing communication skills and thinking like live sound engineers.

This course provides an introduction to production rigging for the live entertainment industry, focusing on safety and safe practices. Students will learn about rigging technologies, ropes, counterweight systems, chain falls, motors and working with different types of ropes, as well as how to rig spot lines, fly scenic elements and apply common knots. Students will also engage in weight load calculations while understanding industry regulations and restrictions.

In this course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of safety regulations for working at heights, including their rights and responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
