Metalworks Community: Juno Award Nominees 2021
The list of nominees for the 50th Juno Awards has been revealed and it's fantastic to see that multiple members of the Metalworks Community, including alumni and faculty, have been nominated and/or contributed to nominated projects! Congratulations to Akeel Henry, Darren 'Jeter' Magierowski, Kevin Dietz, Mike Brandolino, Navraj Goraya (NAV), Rick Fines, Riley Bell, Ross Hayes Citrullo, Shin Kamiyama, and Tim Oxford (Arkells)!
The 2021 Juno Awards will be presented in Toronto, Ontario and televised on CBC on June 6th. Due to the pandemic, instead of hosting the awards in a single large venue, different categories will be presented and televised from a variety of music venues throughout Canada. Congratulations to all the 2021 nominees! We look forward to another year celebrating Canadian achievements.
Akeel Henry
Akeel Henry, a graduate of Metalworks Institute's Audio Production & Engineering Diploma Program has secured two 2021 Juno nominations! Akeel has been nominated for the Jack Richardson Producer of the Year Award for his work producing Trey Songz' “Rain (feat. Swae Lee)” (co-producer Mike 'DZL' Holmes), Trey Songz' "BACK HOME", and Toni Braxton's “Spell My Name” (co-producer Antonio Dixon), and he is credited as a composer on Savannah Ré's album Solid which is nominated for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year! Congratulations!
Shin Kamiyama
Shin Kamiyama, a graduate of Metalworks Institute's Audio Production & Engineering Diploma Program has engineering credits on The Weeknd's record-smashing global hit album After Hours, including the chart-topping track Blinding Lights which are nominated in three categories at the 2021 Juno Awards! After Hours is nominated for Album of the Year and Contemporary R&B/Soul Recording of the Year, and Blinding Lights is nominated for Single of the Year! The Weeknd is also up for three other Juno awards this year - Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and the Juno Fan Choice Award. Congratulations!

NAV, a graduate of Metalworks Institute's Audio Production & Engineering Diploma Program has racked up two nominations at the 2021 Juno Awards! NAV is once again nominated for the Juno Fan Choice Award and his chart-topping album Good Intentions is nominated for Rap Recording of the Year! Congratulations!
Riley Bell
Riley Bell, a graduate of Metalworks Institute's Professional Sound & Business (Studio Production Major) Diploma Program is credited on two nominated projects at the 2021 Juno Awards! Riley has mixing credits on Artist of the Year nominee Jessie Reyez's acclaimed album Before Love Came To Kill Us, which is nominated for Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year, and he has mixing and mastering credits on Take Care Of You (Feat Syd) which is nominated for Traditional R&B Soul Recording of the Year! Congratulations!
Tim Oxford
Tim Oxford, a graduate of Metalworks Institute's Audio Production & Engineering Diploma Program, is the drummer for Arkells, who have been nominated for Group of the Year at the 2021 Juno Awards! Congratulations!
Mike Brandolino
Mike Brandolino, a graduate of Metalworks Institute's Professional Sound & Business (Studio Production Major) Diploma Program, is credited for vocal engineering on Johnny Orlando's album It's Never Really Over which is nominated for Pop Album of the Year at the 2021 Juno Awards! Congratulations!
Darren 'Jeter' Magierowski
Darren Magierowski, a graduate of Metalworks Institute's Audio Production & Engineering Diploma Program has engineering and editing credits on Protest the Hero's album Palimpsest which is nominated for Metal/Hard Album of the Year and Album Artwork of the Year at the 2021 Juno Awards! Congratulations!
Kevin Dietz
Kevin Dietz, a graduate of Metalworks Institute's Audio Production & Engineering Diploma Program has recording engineering credits on JJ Wilde's debut album Ruthless which is nominated for Rock Album of the Year at the 2021 Juno Awards! He also has engineering credits on The Glorious Sons' latest album A War On Everything which won the 2020 Juno Award for Best Rock Album - this year The Glorious Sons are nominated for Group of the Year! Congratulations!
Rick Fines
Canadian roots music veteran and Metalworks Institute adjunct faculty member Rick Fines is credited on two of this year's Juno nominated projects! His album Solar Powered Too has been nominated for Blues Album of the Year and he played guitar on Leela Gilday's album North Star Calling which is nominated for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year. Congratulations!
Ross Hayes Citrullo
Music Producer/Mixer and Metalworks Institute Instructor Ross Hayes Citrullo has engineering and mixing credits on The Reckless One by Samantha Martin & The Delta Sugar which is nominated for Blues Album of the Year at the 2021 Juno Awards! Congratulations!
