Alumni Update: Drake Andrews, Audio Production & Engineering
Graduated From: Audio Production & Engineering Diploma (2015)
In the last year, Drake Andrews, an honours graduate of our Audio Production & Engineering Program, has worked with numerous artists at Toronto’s The Orange Lounge Recording Studio, including Nelly Furtado, Our Founders, J-Soul, Zeds Dead, Serena Ryder, Shawn Hook and EDM duo DVBBS. He continues to work with DVBBS at their private studio Kanary Studios.
During his busy recording schedule, Drake had the opportunity to engineer Big Wreck’s cover of Rush’s iconic song Closer to the Heart. The track is featured on Rush’s A Farewell to Kings 40th anniversary deluxe box set. We caught up with Drake to find out more about his experience with the project; “My experience working on the Big Wreck sessions was great, one of my favourite[s] to date. I was able to spend time with some great and incredibly talented musicians, all while continuing to learn more tips and tricks related to the audio world, helping me to become a better engineer myself.”
Now that he has a few years of industry experience behind him, we asked Drake about what he’s taken away from Metalworks institute and he had this to say “Some of the best advice I received at Metalworks was from Alf, [Instructor Alf Annibalini] telling the class [that] to make it, you must be persistent but not annoying. Hard work pays off.”
