Alumni Update: Ben McCormick, Professional Sound and Business (Live Production Major)

Since graduating from the Professional Sound and Business (Live Production Major) Program at Metalworks in August of 2014, Ben McCormick has been developing the skills he learned at MWI in the event production industry.

Ben began working in the lighting department at Metalworks Production Group shortly after graduation, and also worked with the MPG team on various audio setups, operations tasks, and event strikes.

Following his tenure at MPG, Ben ventured into a new opportunity with Quest Audio Visual, a Scarborough, Ontario-based company specializing in corporate event production. Ben’s responsibilities include ensuring that gear and equipment for various events is pulled on time and accurately.  He is also responsible for the trucks that Quest has on the road, from planning their route to scheduling drivers.

Ben was recently promoted to Project Manager with Quest. He is now responsible for the full management of the shows: supervising the setup, managing all technicians on the setup and strike, working with clients and providing AutoCAD floor plans to them, and preparing the orders to make sure the right equipment gets sent to the show. Ben also meets with clients, both before and after the show, to ensure that they’re happy with the service provided by his team.

Some of the corporate clients and events Ben has been involved with over the past year include the 2016 Auto Show Canadian Tour (for Hyundai, Nissan, Infinity and Jaguar Land Rover), the Arbonne Cosmetics Convention in Calgary, the Canadian Pediatric Conference in P.E.I., and Dave Chappelle’s Toronto shows, to name but a few.
