Alumni Update: Andrew Cowan, Professional Sound

Andrew Cowan graduated from the Professional Sound program in 2009. Since graduating, Andrew seems to have found his home at Lacquer Channel Mastering. Canada’s largest and longest running professional mastering studio. With the skills that Andrew acquired during his time at Metalworks he says he has been “given the tools and know-how that has allowed him to be where he is today”. Learning under the combined 60+ years of experience that Lacquer Channels Head Engineer, George Graves and Senior Engineers Noah Mintz and Phil Demetro have accumulated, Andrew feels there is nothing that he can’t bring the most out of in mastering.

At Lacquer Channel, Andrew has had the honor of assisting on mastering projects for artist such as Marcy Playground, Karl Wolf, Brendan Canning’s (Broken Social Scene) side project Cookie Duster, and Dave Baksh’s (formerly of Sum41) new band Organ Thieves and Black Cat Attack and producer Boi-1da.

When asked about his education Andrew said “Everything I learned at Metalworks has come together to give me the skills I use everyday. If it wasn’t for Metalworks Institute I wouldn’t be where I am right now. Plain and simple.”

Andrew mastered Ben Stevenson’s song  “Falling Off” Produced by Boi-1da and the debut video, “Watch You Dive” by Tournament of Hearts, a band from LA.
