Shin Kamiyama Helps Power "Blinding Lights" to 5 Billion Streams

Metalworks graduate Shin Kamiyama (Audio Production & Engineering 2009) is celebrating a career milestone alongside The Weeknd, as "Blinding Lights" officially became the first song in Spotify history to surpass 5 billion streams. This achievement builds on the track’s earlier record as the first to hit 4 billion streams in 2024, cementing its place as one of the most successful songs of all time.

Shin served as an engineer on "Blinding Lights" as well as several other tracks on the After Hours album, released in 2020. He also worked on The Weeknd’s most recent album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, which earned Album of the Year at the 2025 JUNO Awards. Beyond his work with The Weeknd, Shin has also collaborated with artists such as Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande, showcasing both his versatility and global reach as an engineer.

"Blinding Lights" continues to climb the charts and is available on all major streaming platforms. Congratulations to The Weeknd & Shin on this historic accomplishment!
