Taylor Barrow, a Professional Sound student, placed first this month in the 5th Annual Roland Canada Synth Contest with his original composition, “Wasted Love.” The first-place prize included $7,000 worth of Roland Canada gear (including a Jupiter-80 Keyboard), as well as a trip to Montreal and an all-access pass to the MuTek Electronic Music Festival.
Although Taylor still has more than a year to go in the Professional Sound program, he is already working hard at establishing himself and building a foundation for his future career. He currently interns at Porcelain Records in Hamilton, which he says has helped him apply the knowledge and skills he has gained so far at our Institute. “I have my Grade Nine piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music and I’ve also been writing music for years,” Taylor says when asked what drew him to apply for the Roland Canada Synth Contest. Congratulations Taylor!
