Metalworks Institute Graduation – Graduating Class of 2016

Graduation is always an exciting event at Metalworks Institute. We look forward to it as a time to welcome back recent grads and alumni, to both honour and celebrate their achievements.

This year, we were thankful to have two recipients of the year’s alumni awards of merit – Alexandra Soumalias and Jason Reynolds, speak at the ceremony! Keep reading for a complete list of graduates and awards – photos are at the bottom of the page!

Alumni Speakers:

Alexandra Soumalias

Alexandra graduated from Metalworks Institute’s Audio Production & Engineering program in 2012 when she received the prestigious Founders Award.  Since completing her studies, Alexandra has become an in-demand artist development and song writing talent; working with artists, record labels and music publishers in both Toronto and Los Angeles. Alexandra also works with Saya , a pop/R&B/hip-hop artist; and she co-wrote all of the songs on Saya’s 2015 debut release. The single Wet Dreams hit #1 on Spotify Canada and has already earned more than 2.5 million spins globally.

Jason Reynolds

Jason Reynolds graduated from Metalworks Institute’s Audio Production and Engineering program in 2005. Jason is one of the lead Audio Engineers at Ashen White Audio Visual Executives in Mississauga, and freelances for a number of production companies in Toronto. He’s also the President and Head Audio Engineer at Angel Music Productions. In the fall of 2015 Jason began touring as the Monitor Engineer for international recording artist Shaggy, and as the Front of House Engineer for award-winning Bollywood artist, Shweta Subram. He continues to mix front of house for the Toronto Mass Choir, which he maintains is one of his favorite gigs.

Mentorship Awards

Mentorship Awards are presented to graduates who have academically excelled in their programs. Recipients will receive a one-on-one mentoring session with a leading music industry professional. This year’s winners are:

• Alexandre Larose from the Audio Production & Engineering program won the Andy Curran mentorship.
• Farid Etemadi from the Audio Production & Engineering program won the Lenny DeRose mentorship.
• Nicole Pitre from the Music Performance & Technology – Vocal Major program won the Denise Donlon mentorship.
• Jonathan Couzelis from the Music Performance & Technology – Guitar Major program won Rik Emmett mentorship.
• Cas Van der Grift from the Professional Sound & Business – Studio Production Major program won the Jake Gold mentorship.
• Michael Yarrow from the Music Business program won the Ralph James Mentorship
• Dang Nguyen from Professional Sound & Business – Studio Production Major program won the Randy Lennox mentorship.
• Bradley Martinez from the Music Performance & Technology – Vocal Major program won the Alex Lifeson mentorship.
• Patrick Curran from the Live Event & Concert Production program won the Richard Mills mentorship.
• Chanho Lee from Electronic Music Production program won the Kardinal Offishal mentorship.
• Kyle Lam from the Professional Sound & Business – Studio Production Major program won the Allan Reid mentorship.
• Vassilios Tzerpos from the Audio Production & Engineering program won the Noah “40” Shebib mentorship.
• James Cain from the Professional Sound & Business – Studio Production Major program won the Gary Slaight mentorship.
• Eric Sist from the Professional Sound – Audio Specialist program won the Bob Spencer mentorship.
