Metalworks Institute Alumni Recognized at 2021 JUNO Awards
This past weekend the JUNO Awards celebrated their 50th year of honouring Canadian talent. It was fantastic to see Metalworks Institute graduates credited on multiple JUNO award-winning projects and to watch globally recognized rapper NAV, a graduate of Metalworks Institute’s Audio Production & Engineering Diploma Program perform as part of the awards show!
The Weeknd was the big winner this year, taking home a total of five awards including Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. Multi-platinum certified audio engineer Shin Kamiyama, a graduate of Metalworks Institute’s Audio Production & Engineering Diploma Program, has engineering credits on The Weeknd's After Hours, which won the JUNO awards for Album of the Year and for Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year, and Blinding Lights which won the award for Single of the Year!
Tim Oxford, a graduate of Metalworks Institute’s Audio Production & Engineering Diploma Program, is the drummer for Arkells who took home the JUNO award for the Group of the Year for the fourth time!
Acclaimed music producer Akeel Henry, a graduate of Metalworks Institute’s Audio Production & Engineering Diploma Program, is credited as a composer on Savannah Ré’s album Solid which won the JUNO award for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year!
Last but not least, Kevin Dietz, a graduate of Metalworks Institute’s Audio Production & Engineering Diploma Program has recording engineering credits on JJ Wilde’s debut album Ruthless which won the JUNO award for Rock Album of the Year!
