2019 MARTY Award Nominees!

Every year, the Mississauga Arts Council celebrates outstanding works of creativity in Mississauga at their annual red-carpet event – The MARTYs. We’re proud to see so many members of the Metalworks community performing and being recognized at this year’s event!  

This year’s red-carpet event will feature performances from two Metalworks Institute graduates and 2018 MARTY Award winners – Music Performance & Technology Diploma Program graduate Abhishek Venkatachalam and Entertainment Business Management Diploma Program graduate Gianmarco Fiacconi and his band The Dreamboats.  

In addition to performing at The MARTYs, The Dreamboats, 2018 winners of the MARTY Award for Best Emerging Musical Group, are nominated the in Established Music Group category. 

We are also delighted to see two of our talented staff members participating in The MARTYs 2019. Our talented Outreach Educator Viera Zmiyiwsky is nominated in the Emerging Music Instrumental category and the evening will be hosted by none other than Music Performance & Technology Diploma Program instructor Rob Tardik. 

Winners will be announced at the event on Thursday, May 23rd. Good luck to all the nominees and performers! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone on the red carpet. 

ABshek

ABshek (Abhishek Venkatachalam) is an award-winning singer, songwriter, music composer, and producer. Trained at the Metalworks Institute, he is the winner of Astro International Supterstar and the 2018 Emerging Vocalist MARTY Award. In addition to his extensive training in Indian and Western Classical Music, he has significant studio and performing experience in Hindi, Tamil, English Pop, and R&B/Soul.

The Dreamboats

The Dreamboats are bringing back good ol’ fashioned Rock n’ Roll! With a sound that is equal parts Chuck Berry & The Wonders, this quartet of Mississauga boys delivers a high energy, nostalgic show. In July 2019, The Dreamboats will be releasing their a new single titled Water Under The Bridge and beginning a multi-week tour spanning across northern United States and Canada. They won the 2018 Emerging Group MARTY Award.

Host: Rob Tardik

Rob Tardik is a multi-award winning guitarist and contemporary pop/jazz instrumental music artist. Rob’s 6th album SYNERGY was released in 2018 with the first single Synergy debuting as one of the most added on the Billboard Smooth Jazz charts. His recent awards include being a finalist in the 2019 International Songwriting Competition and winning the 2018 Established Solo Music Instrumental Mississauga Arts Award.
