Get to know Anna
Anna Mastin is a seasoned vocalist with extensive experience in classical music, jazz, pop, music theory, arranging, and composition. Anna completed both her Grade 10 Voice and Grade 10 Piano from The Royal Conservatory of Music by the age of 18 – under the private instruction of piano virtuoso Brian Finley, and studied classical voice with Marie Anderson and Anna Tamm-Relyea. Anna then continued her education at The University of Toronto, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance; she was the only singer accepted into the prestigious program in 2002. During her time at UofT she was privileged to study privately with esteemed teacher Frank Falco for jazz piano, Christine Duncan, Lisa Martinelli and Heather Bambrick for jazz voice, and to receive extensive private contemporary voice lessons with internationally renowned instructor Elaine Overholt.
Live performing has taken Anna from The Rex Jazz and Blues Bar to Roy Thomson Hall, and to spots on CTV and The W Network. She’s shared the stage with luminaries John McDermott, Quartetto Gelato, Steven Page, Mike Murley, and international sensation Paul Potts. Anna has also spent some time exploring her musical theatre side, starring in “Grease”, “Evita” for ENSS Community Theatre in Brighton, Ontario, and Port Hope Capitol Theatre productions of “Anne Of Green Gables” and “Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. These experiences – along with Anna’s international touring in Austria, Italy, and France as a performer and competitor – have given her great insight into the passion, fear, and joy of live performance.
Anna has recorded 3 full-length albums, including one with the Downbeat award-winning vocal jazz ensemble “Vox”, and enjoyed recording many other solo recording projects at prestigious studios around Toronto, including Metalworks.
Anna Mastin has also spent much time “behind-the-scenes”. She’s been the Studio Manager at the thriving Big Voice Studios in downtown Toronto for more than 6 years, where she’s been working alongside celebrity vocal coach Elaine Overholt. Her many years spent working on “the other side” of the music, TV and movie industries in Canada have broadened Anna’s perspective to include the business side of the arts and fed her approach to singing and vocal coaching in countless ways.
In her private lessons, Anna Mastin works passionately to help each singer delve deeply into the art, craft, and business of singing. She teaches classes and workshops at the elementary, high school and college level, and has been giving private piano and voice instruction from her home studio in Toronto since 2002.
In addition to her time teaching at Metalworks Institute, Anna also coaches at Elaine Overholt’s Big Voice Studios, and from her own studio, Red Door Studios.Back to Faculty
