Chris Martins Lands Role with The Recording Factory
Graduated From: Professional Sound & Business (Studio Production Major) Advanced Diploma (August 2022)
Chris Martins (Professional Sound & Business - Studio Production Major 2022) has found his way in the music industry while he continues to make his mark. The transition from a structured educational environment to the dynamic and often changing music industry posed a new adventure for Chris in the beginning of his career. This period involved a deeper exploration of his career aspirations, and eventually, Chris landed a freelance audio engineering job at The Recording Factory studio in Etobicoke.
This role has allowed Chris to grow as a producer, engineer, and individual, offering the opportunity to take charge of projects. Building a client base was initially challenging, but once he secured his first client, the momentum didn’t stop, leading to larger projects and an extended tenure at the studio.
One notable project Chris worked on is the short film "Punk’d Pooch," for which he composed the score and handled the audio production. This project provided an invaluable learning experience. "The film is about a punk band of anthropomorphic dogs, and since heavy rock music is my bread and butter, they felt I was a perfect fit," Chris shares. Chris collaborated closely with the director and animators to create a song that fit both the narrative and the technical components of the film. The project highlighted his creativity and versatility, earning praise and recognition at the Toronto Animation Film Festival, and soon screening at the Toronto Shorts International Film Festival. Chris's music for "Punk’d Pooch" is now available on all streaming platforms, showcasing his talent and dedication to his craft.
Chris shares that the most helpful aspect about his Metalworks education was the hands-on experience, which made complex production tasks easier to understand through practical application. Additionally, Chris credits his training in operating equipment like DAWs and consoles for preparing him for the varied challenges of audio engineering. Chris encourages new students to make friends and network as much as possible to build important connections that will benefit their artistry and future.
We are excited for Chris to continue to accomplish his goals in the music industry, and wish him the best of luck on his future projects!
