Artist in Residency Listening Party in Studio 6 with MWI Students and Harm and Ease
We’re very proud to announce the outstanding success of our new Metalworks Artist in Residency. In this first edition, we invited Billboard charting rock band Harm & Ease to give students the opportunity to experience a real commercial recording session, practicing their soft skills and bolstering their technical skills.
Phase 1 participants signed up for a Live-Off-The-Floor recording session with Harm & Ease under the director of Studio Manager and Metalworks Instructor Chris Crerar. Students got to meet the band, set up and test the mics, and record on the Neve 8048 in Studio 1. Phase 2 was a mixing contest with the creators of the best mixes invited to a listening party with the band in Studio 6 where the best mix was picked by the band.
It was an incredible experience and a great learning opportunity across all three Phases. Not only was Harm & Ease an amazing talent, but everybody in that session had a fun time; students got to hang out with the band, many jokes and laughs were shared, and everybody came out a bit more confident and a bit better prepared for the real world
In the end, Harm & Ease picked one winner: Edilson Vizotto Martins (APE 2021) who was awarded the opportunity be an assistant engineer on a commercial recording session at Metalworks Studios.
“Music is subjective. We all listen to it differently. One of the cool things we saw today was see how you guys add your own colour to our music.” - John Goodblood of Harm & Ease.
