Alumni Update: John Fielding, Audio Production & Engineering

John Fielding didn’t take long to begin his career in music after graduating from Metalworks Institute’s Audio Production & Engineering Program in 2010, immediately landing a position at True North Records/Linus Entertainment.

During his 2.5 year stint at True North, John worked in A&R, Artist Development, Marketing, Licensing and Artist Bookings. He worked with a host of homegrown talent, including Bruce Cockburn, Saint Alvia, Old Man Luedecke, Elizabeth Shepherd, The Tea Party, Madison Violet, Murray McLauchlan, The Mahones, and many others.

“(True North) was a great learning and networking opportunity for me and really laid the groundwork to where I currently am.”

In 2013, John landed a coveted position in the marketing department at Sony Music Canada, where he currently holds the title of Artist Marketing Manager. His current job entails developing and executing robust forward-thinking marketing plans and general project management for distributed, domestic and international repertoire.

In his three years with Sony, John has had the opportunity to work with some of the biggest names in music, such as Blink-182, Pink Floyd, John Legend, Haim, A$AP Rocky, Britney Spears, Banners, A Tribe Called Red, Jason Aldean, Slayer, Pierce the Veil, George Ezra, and Modest Mouse.

In between his tenures at True North and Sony, John also continued to present shows and programmed events at a number of major festivals across Canada including the Toronto Jazz Festival, Burlington Sound of Music, Burly Calling and more. He was also involved in studio production for several bands in the Canadian music industry.

While he’s obviously worked hard to reach his current position, John says simply “I feel very fortunate to be where I am.”
